Judge Rules Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ Doesn’t Violate Copyright

A California federal judge is ruling that Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” doesn’t infringe on an earlier song’s copyright. Swift was sued by the songwriters of the 2001 3LW song “Playas Gon’ Play,” who claimed her use of the lyric “the players gonna play, play, play…haters gonna hate, hate, hate…” The judge yesterday granted Swift’s motion to dismiss the suit but is giving the plaintiffs the opportunity to amend their complaint by February 26th.
