10 Things Everyone Who Lives in Southern Utah Should Do at Least Once

Living in Southern Utah means having some of the most incredible scenery in the country practically in our backyard. But how many of these Southern Utah experiences have you actually checked off your list?

Whether you’ve lived here your entire life or just moved to the area, here are 10 things every Southern Utah resident should do at least once.

1. Watch a Sunset at Snow Canyon

We all know about Zion, but Snow Canyon State Park might be one of the most underrated places in Utah. Find a good overlook, stick around until sunset and watch the red cliffs completely change color.

2. Drive Through Zion National Park

You don’t necessarily need to tackle Angels Landing to appreciate Zion. Sometimes just driving through the park, stopping at the overlooks and looking up at those massive sandstone cliffs is enough to remind you why millions of people travel here every year.

3. See a Show at Tuacahn

If you live in Southern Utah and have never seen a show at Tuacahn, put it on the list. The red-rock backdrop makes it one of the most unique entertainment venues anywhere.

4. Spend an Afternoon at Sand Hollow

Boating, swimming, paddleboarding, fishing or just sitting near the water — Sand Hollow has become one of Southern Utah’s signature recreation spots.

Bonus points if you’ve ever jumped off the rocks into the water.

5. Take the Drive to Bryce Canyon

One of the great things about living in St. George is how quickly the scenery can change.

Drive north toward Bryce Canyon and you can go from desert landscapes to pine trees and hoodoos in just a few hours.

6. Walk Through Downtown St. George

It’s easy to drive past the places you see every day without actually stopping to explore them.

Take an afternoon and walk through downtown St. George. Check out the historic buildings, shops, restaurants, parks and everything else tucked into the center of town.

7. Eat Somewhere That’s Been Around Forever

Every town has those restaurants that locals have been visiting for years.

Skip the national chain for one meal and visit one of Southern Utah’s longtime local restaurants. Better yet, ask someone who’s lived here for 30 or 40 years where they used to eat.

You might discover a new favorite.

8. Experience a Southern Utah Summer Day

We’re talking about a REAL summer day.

The kind where you walk outside and immediately question every decision you’ve made in your life.

If you’ve experienced 110-degree Southern Utah heat, congratulations. You’re officially one of us.

9. Take a Back-Road Drive

Some of the best scenery in Southern Utah isn’t along Interstate 15.

Pick a road you’ve never traveled before and go exploring. Pine Valley, Gunlock, Enterprise, Kolob, Cedar Mountain and dozens of other areas are close enough for an easy day trip.

Sometimes the drive is the destination.

10. Introduce Someone Else to Southern Utah

This might be the best one.

When friends or family visit, take them to your favorite overlook, restaurant, hiking trail, golf course or hidden Southern Utah spot.

Seeing their reaction reminds you how unusual this place really is.
